Sinead Hewson Founder Unconventional Doctorates

The idea to establish the impact start-up Unconventional Doctorates emerged from writing the book The Mature Student’s Guide to Completing a Doctorate, published by Routledge. Its purpose is to tackle low completion rates among doctoral candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups, self-funded, or not working in education.

Sinéad Hewson completed her PhD in 2021 at TU Dublin, Ireland, researching decision-making when communication is at the heart of an organisation’s strategy development. Her background is in health, business and communication, specialising in co-opetition, group dynamics and gender equity.  Based in the Netherlands, Hewson held several board positions, including the European Institute of Women’s Health, Public Relations Institute of Ireland,  Women’s Business Initiative International and online mental health charity turn2me. Sinead speaks internationally andlectures at Webster University (Leiden Campus) as a guest lecturer at TU Dublin and Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
